We fumble through board game play-through's and reviews once or twice a week with videos in 4K.
We don’t much care for rules and we always make mistakes so don’t take it personally if we screw up your beloved Euro game...we had fun doing it 😉
You’ll most likely get a loose tutorial in the play-through's before we start playing so if that isn’t for you then just skip ahead.

Nightshift - A Pole Dancing Board Game Review
Join us as we take a look at the push your luck board game Nightshift published by Exotic Cancer.
NB: I mis-spoke in the very brief overview of the rules. You actually have to roll higher than the number on the customer card which is what we did when playing the game.
This was corrected later in the video. Dont get angry now...

I love your reviews so much. I trust your judgment and I like how you structure your videos
Cheers mate
Honestly the game sounds terrible. Your review of the customer card art has me dead though.
whoa - had no idea that you do reviews of games currently in the crowdsourcing phase of their release lifecycle. I got in touch with you last year about reviews for some of our released titles - I would like to hear more about your practices when it comes to rendering a review for games that are not fully manufactured and released VS ones that are? I'd assume this copy was provided by the publisher since it's not widely available - is this sponsored content? all the same - appreciate the honesty of the review as always =)
I was told it was the completed version, then told it was a prototype, then told it was completed but with some prototype components. There was some confusion with regards to rules in this one which is why I dont review prototypes. Wish I hadn’t bothered wasting my time on this what with all the hassle it’s caused. I don’t do sponsored content.
Topper. Looking to get the collectors edition after playing the 2nd edition. Well worth playing.
you have a way with words.
Word!
I think this game is just a thinly veiled attempt to sell NSFW models to wargamers. It's genuinely creepy that this game exists and the loop is to gold dig creepy customers. It's like it's teaching you to dehumanized everyone involved here
I find it odd that on the one had this game has been labelled as “empowering” yet on the other features creepy perverts having crafty wanks in private rooms. Surely that’s a contradiction?
Was there not an issue with elves and Vikings being to sexy on box art and the very same people who had that issue are now saying how stunning and brave this art is
Even though I respect the game designer(s) for trying such a unique theme, I can't help thinking that something like this is doomed to fail when the novelty wears off. After the first play or two, no one sane is going to keep inviting their friends over to compete in their stripper board game. One-and-done might be fine if your game costs below $30- but Nightshift's MSRP is $95. That's _insane_ for something with such little staying power, even if the components and production are really good.
Found your channel yesterday and have already binged through half of your content - love the way you structure your videos, and your unflinching honesty is a breath of fresh air in the UA-cam echo chamber - the fact you're also giving the denizens of reddit shit fits is just icing on the cake 😂
Also think the review of pax pamir is the only one I've seen so far where you've not given it at least a maybe, so unless I've just had a blindingly lucky run I really don't get the 'oh he's just negative for negative sake' argument 😂
Thanks for the reality check.
Noice
You should do a full playthrough as a vid, nvm, found that you did 5 years ago. I''ll go watch that.
I did. It’s in the playlists
😎, that is a rare one now. and still works
Just found this and love your take on it! Though AD&D is a bit of a mess, there's no arguing that it makes roleplaying fun. The OSR has updated and reorganized the rules so that it makes more sense, but keeps the sense of regular people facing death. Lots of room for heroism.
Next family gamenight: Voidfall! :D
Ima Yank that only discovered FF around about 10 years ago despite some stuff being released here back in the late 80s I missed. (Born in ‘74, began gaming in ‘86) Despite the wealth here of rpgs, etc, I have to admit I’m a bit jealous of the solo market my UK fellows had. I wish I could have gone to a local shop (be it a hobby shop or no) and grabbed not just a few solo RPGs with solid rules (as opposed to the ‘make a choice books’ we had here in the states), but also an issue of two issues of magazines focused on solo gaming as well! (Proteus and Warlock). So jealous! Heheh 🙂
At first I was intrigued at the idea of a game like this, but you're right, as I was listening to the game rules, I quickly realized there wasn't any meat to this. I'm not going to want to spend time on a game that gives me no more thrill than Zombie Dice or Dead Man's Draw does, and they do it in a fraction of the time. So thank you for your honest review. It might have been more interesting if theme was more about managing the nightclub and having worker placement. You could still do a lot of the push your luck, but also have to manage your employees and such. Like a better bouncer that only lets in richer customers, dancers that are more successful at relieving them of their cash.
We all love carcasonne, but Chinatown sounds fun, I might try it. Thanks for the recommendation
Wow is it just me or has Tom Vasel lost a lot of weight.
Seems a total shame, there is everything in this box that should work, except of a game :D Customers being creepy actually seems well placed and intended so no issues there, and I was really waiting for some side field theme like villain managers, Sons of Anarchy-like games or some dark humor thing. This being a luck based casual drinking game is, I think, a massive waste of potential.
Regarding the success of this game on its crowdfunding campaign: I'm guessing that there are some folks that are backing this just to show how accepting they are of a game where your goal is to delude losers into thinking that you really care about them while swiping as much money as you can out of their pockets. Their acceptance of the theme as a show of their "goodness" in supporting sex workers is what they are backing and not the gameplay (which sounds pretty weak). I'll play Can't Stop if I wanna roll dice to meet a target number.
If the games good then I’ll play it, but truth be told this was trash irrespective of the theme.
Exactly
I'm not sure what is more pathetic, the laziness of the game design on offer or the lame bot comment attempts to mitigate BGB's scathing review.
Admittedly I got one word wrong in the rules brief as the videos are completely unscripted (which was rectified in a later reference) and all hell broke loose. I’m all for being held to account but that’s insane.
"reviews" are all using the same adjectives and language
Thank you for reviewing this classic! An important rule clarification: After revealing your starting 4 characters, your remaining 4 characters are placed face-down on dungeon tiles along with the items. This makes item placement quite exciting, because where your remaining characters are in the dungeon is unknown to your opponent. Having 8 characters in play for each side does lead to a more exciting game. The second printing of Dungeon Twister used thicker cardboard, as did the expansions. I agree the first printing was pretty bad, especially when its thickness made it incompatible with the expansions. Asmodee provided a free mail-in upgrade which I took advantage of nearly 16 years ago. I'm not interested in the upcoming 20th anniversary edition because of the cost, miniatures and board size increase. The original game with token capsules is perfect, no need for standees.
I don’t remember reading the bit about excess character placement. I’m sure they go back in the box.
@@BoardGameBollocks I'm positive both players place all 8 characters: 4 on their starting line, and 4 in the dungeon rooms along with the items. On rulebook page 4, the "Placing the remaining tokens" section reads: "All tokens must be placed face-down. Players continue until all the remaining tokens have been placed. When finished, the maximum capacity of each room will be reached." On rulebook pages 4-5, the "Maximum number of tokens in each room for setup" image shows a total of 20 tokens in the dungeon rooms. That means each player places in the dungeon room all 6 of their items, and their 4 characters not on the starting line. The game is intense when played with the full character roster, and action picks up quickly. Place your Troll in a dungeon room near your opponent's starting line to threaten some combat trouble... as long as they don't hit you with their Wizard's fireball wand!
@skarrmann I read it again and it looks like your right. Had they used the term non starting character and items instead of token it would’ve been clearer. It’s a shame really as it takes away the choice of characters if they’re all in the dungeon anyway. Oh well. You learn something new every day.
My votes: 1 Bandido 2 Acquire 3 Planet Unknown 4 Isle of Skye 5 Kingdomino 6 Race to the Raft 7 World Wonders 8 Sprawlopolis 9 Carcassonne 10 NMBR 9
I don't play many tile laying games. I quite liked Carpe diem, though.
Thats more than once ive seen a fan/member of their community go after someone for "getting things wrong". Says a lot. The cult like dog piling in their discord also says a lot. Exotic Cancer checks out
I got one word wrong. Higher rather than lower…the principle remains the same. Game hinges on a random die roll. Not god enough.
@BoardGameBollocks ya I caught the mistake. Didn't seem all that meaningful to me. It's not a tutorial video. A friend and I were super interested. It's that weird defensiveness that scared him off . I wasn't totally sold and the mechanics for sure seem lacking. I like to see people take chances, glad it's going well on KS and hope it works out for everyone. I think I'll stay far away though
I 100% agreed with you until Kemet came along. The new version is much better balanced, easier to understand the icons, streamlined, so I do disagree on it. The other 9, totally agree.
I disagree with you on the mechanic. The dice rolling push your luck games are very similar like this one, you test your luck and try to bail out at the last possible moment. The commitment dice rolls seem to be more troubling, as you lose the rest of your turn when making the roll. This can be a thematic element, still, it is a problematic part. However, all other things are true for this game. It is made to feel that anybody who goes to a night club is a pathetic loser and has to be stripped off his money. Creepy guys, adulterers, etc. If the designer thinks sex work is real work, why do you look down on your customers? You live off of them! The whole vibe of the game is very creepy in an unusual way. Yet, I still think the game itself isn't that bad and I am considering backing it, because of the unique theme and it seems the game works well with the proper playgroup. (Casual gamers who want to play a light NON-party 18+ game)
The central mechanic is trying to roll higher than the number on a card. That’s it… As I said in the review. I’d rather play Zombie Dice.
@@BoardGameBollocks the reason I mentioned in the other comment why it reminded Pandemic, because on your turn, you have 4 energy for 4 action, with which you can move, flip a customer or try to entice him. Similarly like in Pandemic where you move, cure disease or build a center. The dice rolling for the customer is my biggest concern too, as you have 8 or 12 rounds to roll successfully, then be successful in the push your luck minigame.
My understanding is that the designer was herself a dancer. So maybe that's her experience?
Was excited to back the game because of the unique theme but I was unsure given the price. I loved that you covered it since I consistently watch your videos. After watching, I read the rulebook and realized that dice rolls and die icon resolution are two of the main game mechanics, which I’m not the biggest fan of given their high luck factor. Although I opted not to back it after further research, I wish nothing but the best for Nightshift nonetheless!
I was quite tempted to back this, until I saw the 120$ for the deluxe edition. I was kinda sad, because I liked the theme and the presentation. Well, seems theres not much of an interesting game here.... Thx for your honest review and for making me feel better for not backing it.
Ouch! Must be triggering AF for a client to see how he's viewed by a stripper..
Eh?
Truest of comments here. If you think about your customers this way, why do you work there and be proud of it? It cannot go both ways.
I LOVED NIGHTSHIFT! I jumped at the opportunity to play test when the creator asked for people and I honestly don't think you've accurately understood the rules based on what you’ve said.
I did understand the rules. Did you not read the video description?
@@BoardGameBollocks You literally said roll higher OR lower in your video. It’s obviously one or the other and you clearly didn’t know, you’re just lying and editing your caption to cover your ass
I was alluding to my earlier error, dumbo…sorry that connection was lost on you. Makes no difference. The game sucked which was the overall theme of the review and I stand by that. You’re biased anyway as you either backed the game or know the designer. I’m guessing it’s the latter.
@@BoardGameBollocksmay I quote yourself: "@cymraegddraig I delete all abusive comments on here " - so, are you gonna delete your own post or are you the only one allowed to abuse others? Just wondering...
There’s no profanity in my reply to you, silly sausage…
Oh wow I got to play test it and found it really fun! understand you get more views by saying it’s bad though 😉
How did you figure that out?
What a silly thing to say.
Just another troll mate
You must be new here... Getting views for posting a negative review <laughs>. This dude couldn't give a rat's ass what you, me, or anyone for that matter thinks. That's why it's a great channel!
Glad to see a review of this, I really wanted to back it but cannot afford to right now and your review has put me at ease a little. Don't feel like I'll be missing out too much. There is actually a decent card game out there with this same theme called Lap Dance if you can get a go of that, I quite liked it!
Yea I saw that about 10 years ago
@BoardGameBollocks aye, it's been around for a while haha
Thanks mate, you've probably saved some people from wasting their money on this turd of a game
It’s got £240k on KS so that speaks volumes…volumes about what exactly is up for debate.
I got to play it on tabletop simulator and I had very positive feedback, I honestly couldn't fault it and I am really excited to get my copy, I thought it was a great game and very well done. So it's interesting to see the other side of the coin. Good on you for being honest, not every game is for every one.
Exactly. The game has done nearly 300k on KS. If I were the designer I’d pay attention to that and not waste my time getting upset about a negative review from some random bloke on UA-cam.
Thank you!!! I've been waiting for an actual review, but it seems that there are only previews... which seem to also be paid to praise the game without going into much detail. I've been following this game for a year without much info to go on, but I was so happy I was hesitant after seeing the price. You just saved me $100+; I cant thank you enough!!
@ChelseaWhite-v3r I'm listening. How did he get the rules wrong?
@@BoardGameBollocks instead of answering my question, she just deletes her comment. 🤷♂️
I didn’t play the game wrong. I followed the rulebook and then it was amended after the video was recorded. Not sure what was changed as I didn’t bother to look.
I got the opportunity to play test this game with a group of my close female mates and it was heaps of fun. The character designs were pretty funny and amusing, if you know the designers art it would make more sense. I wouldn’t think you’re the target audience but it’s interesting to see a diff perspective. Personally I found it flowed really well especially with a group of friends chatting and having fun and getting competitive :)
Jesus.....a Game for everbody😂i'm not gonna play this with My son i'm very interesting in the minis of the game😅😅😅
When I read the rules, I could not even figure out what is the loop of the game, this review confirmed my suspicions. It is very much like adult version of Talisman, you move and roll bunch of checks to see what happens. It is more of an experience than an actual strategy game. This is not your Pfister or Lacerda, it is so sad since the production looks great
That’s a decent analogy actually
Glad for the review. This game is just gross.
That is very precise. It is not necessarily bad, it is gross.
I seen the creators review here. Im glad you removed it. It blows my mind at how well this game is doing on KS. People really do just have money to blow (puns are always intended)
I remove all abusive comments. Designer could’ve been humble and it would’ve stayed up. Not my problem
Goodness me! They’ll be making games about gay saunas next for goodness sake.
I am so high right now. I am having problems understanding what I am seeing. Am I high or is this video high? This is so weird. It's such a terrible bad idea for a game premise, and a terrible looking dice determined game, and ... of course it should be terrible, that's thematic ... in a meta sort of way. "Lisa, Lauren & Bee" look like zombies. Zombie strippers. The whole board game looks like a b-movie about zombies in a cheap strip club. I think I've seen this movie ... on Tubi. Was the movie based off of the board game or was the board game based off of the movie? I can't follow the review and the neon purple and pink infused images. It's too complicated. I'm too high for this right now.
Comment of the week
Finally, a true preview/review of a crowdfunding game at the point that it truly matters. No 'shill' over-enthusiasm to have to suffer through. If designers don't offer you their future KS games for review I'll know the games not worth shit as they're unwilling to have a true gamer try it out! You're going to save me a fortune. I owe you a pint or something for introducing me to Carooka a while back too!
Another amazing review for posterity. The reference to Gay Sauna absolutely brilliant.
I'll stick to Artipia's 'Lap Dance,' a better game than you'd expect.
I wonder if he was a Punk back in the day
NICE video....the game lost me at the map. too many "gamey" rules for me: if you can't move the full amount on your card due to being blocked in by other players you can't move At All?? What, chariots would just Freeze where they were for a b it?? lol great points about the color on the cards and their odd size The pieces are the my favorite element Love his enthusiasm for the game!
It’s tactical. You play a card that you know with cause a log jam. It’s actually fun
HOLY HELL that's a ton of bass
90s rave mate
Thanks for the brutal honesty. 🔥
